The Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) has cautioned the public against engaging with two entities that promote unlicensed investment products through social media platforms.
In a public notice dated July 1, 2025, the SEC stated that News GH and Ghana News were found advertising unapproved financial schemes that promise high returns with little to no risk.
Unlicensed products
According to the SEC, News GH has been promoting a product called the "Gold AI Rise Platform," while Ghana News is involved in marketing another unnamed investment scheme. The Commission noted that neither entity is licensed to conduct any capital market activities under the Securities Industry Act, 2016 (Act 929), as amended by Act 1062 of 2021.
No regulatory approval
The Commission indicated that it had not granted regulatory approval to either entity and warned that such platforms pose serious risks to the investing public. It added that it is working in collaboration with law enforcement agencies to identify and take legal action against the individuals behind these operations.
The SEC advised the public to be cautious and avoid dealing with any unlicensed investment products. It urged individuals to verify the status of any capital market operator by contacting the Commission.
Notice
The Commission issued the notice in line with its mandate under Sections 3 and 208(c) of the Securities Industry Act, emphasising its commitment to protecting investors and promoting a transparent and secure financial market in Ghana.
