The 2025 Basic Education Certificate Examination(BECE) began nationwide today.
The Minister for Education, Haruna Iddrissu, has advised candidates sitting for this year’s BECE to avoid any form of examination malpractice.
The Minister emphasised the importance of integrity and discipline, urging students not to involve themselves in any dishonest practices.

Mr Iddrisu, who is currently touring various examination centres across the country, reiterated the government’s commitment to ensuring a fair and smooth conduct of the exams, and the provision of adequate infrastructure to curb future disturbances.
Breakdown
A total of 603,328 candidates are writing the exams which is expected to end on Tuesday, June 17,2025. The Ashanti Region has the highest number of candidates, with 119,354, followed by Greater Accra Region with 111,700. At the Regional level,Central Region,is the third region with the largest number, at 67,146.
Subjects
In all, 11 subjects will be examined, and each candidate will take an average of nine subjects, including seven common core courses, which are English Language, Mathematics, Science, Ghanaian Language, Social Studies, Religious and Moral Education, Creative Art and Design, and Career Technology.
