President John Dramani Mahama has re-nominated two district chief executives, pending approval by their respective assemblies.
Law, nominees
The re-nominations were made in accordance with Article 243 (1) of the 1992 Constitution and Section 20 (1) of the Local Governance Act, 936 of 2016 as amended.
The nominees were announced in a statement issued by the Ministry of Local Government, Chieftaincy and Religious Affairs on Thursday, June 12, 2025.
The nominees are Faustina Akeyom Abulu for the Kassena Nankana District Assembly and Mary Haruna for the Nadowli Kaleo District Assembly.
The statement, signed by Ahmed Ibrahim, Minister for Local Government, Chieftaincy and Religious Affairs stated that the nomination is a move by government to continue strengthening the local governance system.
Clarification
The minister further clarified that the appointments will only take effect upon confirmation by their respective assemblies.
