A total of 13 national candidates and 49 regional candidates have been approved to stand for various leadership positions within the Ghana Journalists Association (GJA) across the country, following a thorough and transparent vetting process.

The Elections Committee announced that the elections is scheduled for June 30, 2025 as the milestone marks a significant step in the GJA’s ongoing commitment to fairness, accountability, and democratic governance.

However, the nomination window remains open for the Vice Chairperson position in the Volta Region, with the deadline for submissions set at 5:00pm on Monday, June 17, 2025.

Qualified individuals who submit their nominations within this period and successfully complete the vetting process is said to be added to the final ballot.

Elections

The publication of the approved candidates ushers in the official campaign period and signals the beginning of what is expected to be a healthy, competitive, and transparent election process.

Also, the Elections Committee has reiterated its dedication to upholding the highest standards of integrity and impartiality throughout the election.

GJA Constitution

In accordance with the GJA Constitution, the Vetting Committee carefully reviewed and investigated all petitions received against some candidates. These reviews were conducted based on constitutional provisions and guided by the decisions and precedents of the GJA Election Dispute Adjudication Committee from previous elections.

Commendation

Further, the Committee commended the petitioners for their vigilance and commitment to democratic due process within the Association while  extending wishes to all candidates, encouraging them to conduct their campaigns with decorum, professionalism, and respect for journalistic ethics.
