The government’s flagship initiative, the 24-Hour Economy, is set to begin this week, with an official launch scheduled for Wednesday, July 2, 2025.
A key campaign promise of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) during the 2024 elections, the policy aims to reduce unemployment and increase national productivity by encouraging continuous, round-the-clock economic activity across various sectors.
Policy document
Presidential Advisor on the policy, Goosie Tanoh, confirmed the rollout during the presentation of the final policy document to the Speaker of Parliament, Alban Bagbin.
Parliamentary service
The Speaker of Parliament, revealed plans to implement the 24-hour economy model within the Parliamentary Service itself. The move, he explained, is part of efforts to enhance institutional efficiency and contribute to tackling unemployment.
Ghana’s economic transformation
In the 281-page policy document, the President has articulated a bold and strategic framework for transforming Ghana's economy through full-capacity operations in strategic sectors.
The programme is designed to create 1.7 million decent jobs over four years, especially for youth and women intending to slow inflation and sustainably lower interest rates, by increasing domestic supply of goods and reducing reliance on imports.
The document stressed that achieving sustainable and inclusive economic growth requires more that fragmented efforts in isolated sectors. Instead, it demands a comprehensive, integrated value chain approach- one that aligns resources, labour and innovation around national development priorities.
