The Minerals Income Investment Fund (MIIF) has brought vital healthcare services to the people of Oguaa during this year’s 61st Oguaa Fetu Afahye, through a free community health screening exercise.
The programme, held at the Ato Austin Gardens in Cape Coast, drew more than 200 participants, including women, children, and the elderly. It was organised in partnership with the Oguaa Fetu Afahye Planning Committee, Unichem Ghana Group, the Cape Coast Regional Health Directorate, and the Ghana Pharmaceutical Association.
Residents
Residents received a wide range of medical services, including general check-ups, eye testing, Hepatitis B screening, blood sugar monitoring, and nutrition advice. Attendees were also given over-the-counter medication and participated in health education sessions.
According to MIIF, the initiative reflects the Fund’s commitment to improving livelihoods in mining communities through Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) interventions, with healthcare as a priority focus.
“We are pleased to see such a strong turnout. It shows the community’s interest in safeguarding their health. Providing screenings for eyesight, Hepatitis B, blood pressure, and general wellness fits into our CSR mandate of ensuring access to quality healthcare,” the MIIF team noted.
The Fund also used the opportunity to educate residents about its mandate and role in supporting community development initiatives.
Medical team
The medical team on duty praised the exercise, describing it as an essential annual intervention that helps residents detect and manage health conditions early. They further encouraged participants to adopt healthy lifestyles and apply the medical advice provided.
Expressing appreciation, MIIF acknowledged the efforts of all partners, including the Planning Committee, Unichem Ghana Group, the Regional Health Directorate, the Pharmaceutical Association, and community members, for making this year’s screening a success.
The health initiative has now become a key highlight of the Oguaa Fetu Afahye, reinforcing the festival’s role not just as a cultural celebration but also as a platform for improving community welfare.
